Local Networks Initiative (LocNet): Community Networks with a gender perspective

In 2018, APC expanded its focus on infrastructure with the launch of the Local Networks initiative (LocNet). This program supported community-based approaches to connectivity, recognizing that meaningful access requires solutions developed by and for local communities.

LocNet represented APC's commitment to addressing structural barriers to digital inclusion, moving beyond policy advocacy to support practical alternatives to dominant connectivity models. It exemplified APC's understanding that digital rights require both policy frameworks and concrete infrastructure solutions.
