Channelling resources to our network members has been a priority for APC since its inception. We have done this in different ways, ranging from Global Information Society Watch (GISWatch) to Take Back the Tech! as well as member travel and exchange grants.

Since 2016, with the support of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), APC subgranting is the APC strategy for sharing resources among the network members. The grants are aimed specifically at enabling members to contribute to achieving the impact objectives identified in APC’s strategic outcomes.

Grants available to members

The APC member grants programme offers four types of grants which are available to APC organisational members:

1. APC Member Engagement and Travel Fund (METF) (APPLY ANYTIME)

The METF supports member collaboration and member-driven skill sharing, as well as travel to and participation in strategic events. Its goal is to keep the network strong and vibrant by enabling members to assist and learn from one another. It also enables APC through its members to have a presence in events that are relevant to them and their work, but also to APC’s overall strategic goals.

2. Advocacy and institutional strengthening grants

Previously called "research and campaign grants", in 2024 these grants were reoriented to become advocacy and institutional strengthening grants. These grants support advocacy and institutional strengthening activities that are aligned with any of the immediate outcomes identified in the APC Strategic Plan 2024-2027. They also continue to support local research and campaigns that contribute to members’ advocacy work or enable them to participate in APC-wide campaigns.

3. Grants for local implementation of APC’s strategic plan

These grants are for projects that contribute to the implementation of APC’s strategic outcomes for 2020-2023 at the national level and are meant to strengthen ongoing work of APC members.

4. Environmental justice and sustainability grants

This is a pilot grant that APC is implementing to explore participatory approaches and practices for its grant-making strategy. It is addressed to APC organisational members that participate in the work of the APC Environmental Sustainability Group. The priority framework for this grant is guided by the environmental sustainability priorities of the APC Strategic Plan and the specific priority focus is being set through a participatory decision-making process with members.
