APC at the IGF2025

The 20th Internet Governance Forum (IGF) is taking place in Lillestrøm, Norway, from 23 to 27 June 2025. The theme for 2025 is "Building Digital Governance Together", a topic in which the APC network actively advocates, and APC is organising and participating in multiple events. With over 10,000 participants registered to engage in over 200 sessions, the IGF has shaped its programme across four main themes:

  • [Building] Digital Trust and Resilience
  • [Building] Sustainable and Responsible Innovation
  • [Building] Universal Access and Digital Rights
  • [Building] Digital Cooperation

This edition of IGF is also a vital opportunity to amplify our commitment to the World Summit on the Information Society, currently undergoing its 20-year review. From the IGF to the WSIS High-Level Meeting taking place in July, our network is calling for global dialogue and collective action toward a more inclusive and sustainable internet. We see the IGF and WSIS as instrumental processes for civil society to advocate for marginalised communities and human rights defenders, particularly in the Global South, ensuring a right-based approach to internet governance.

Building on this, our efforts this year will focus on contributing to key global debates around the governance of digital technologies and on how to advance social, environmental and gender justice in this realm. In particular, we aim to mainstream gender perspectives and explore financing mechanisms that support community-centred connectivity initiatives. Ensuring access in contexts of conflict and crises remains a critical concern, where we bring a gender lens and seek to broaden the understanding of technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV). The IGF also continues to be a key space for convening, networking and strengthening partnerships across regions and sectors.
