Originating in a 2020 book by Catherine D'Ignazio and Lauren Klein, it encourages everyone that works with data to challenge systemic inequalities. The authors have outlined various principles for it focused on power dynamics, hierarchies, contexts, and accounting for emotional experiences and multiple perspectives. This intersectional approach is especially helpful for public policy and new thinking in emergent data-heavy technologies like AI.
